After consultation with local residents, Islington Council is bidding for over £18 million worth of funding for the area.
Tonight's Executive meeting approves a slate of 93 schemes that the council will be campaigning to get funding from Transport for London to bring massive improvements to Islington. They include money for improvements to major roads and bridges, road safety schemes, walking and cycling, more bus stops, environmental improvements to town centres, station improvements, school transport, tree planting, and encouraging green travel. The schemes were selected by consultation with the public through Area Committees.
Cllr Bridget Fox says: "We are determined to fight Islington's corner to get this funding for the projects that local residents want. These schemes would provide lots of improvements to transport and our local environment. This year, we are particularly emphasising projects that will make it easier to travel in a green way in the borough, by making it easier and pleasanter to walk, cycle, and use public transport.
"We know we won't get funding for all of these schemes, but we will be campaigning to make sure that Islington gets the best deal possible from TfL."
