Islington Council's Liberal Democrat Executive has secured bank holiday rubbish collection this August by negotiating with workers unions and providing extra funding for a seamless service, it was announced at this evenings (Thursday 14th July) executive meeting.
Previously, dustmen did not work on bank holidays - causing confusion and inconvenience for the 20,000 plus residents who have a Monday collection. Now dustmen will work on the Bank holiday to give residents a seamless, convenient service.
Cllr Bridget Fox, executive member for sustainability, who has been fighting for the change, said:
"We've listened to residents and negotiated a better deal for Islington - the changes mean we now provide a seamless collection service which benefits the borough as a whole. Residents can now look forward to having their rubbish collected this August Bank Holiday Monday just the same as any Monday."
