Islington Council won the Transport for London 'Borough of the Year' Award for Sustainable Transport last night.
Islington fought off stiff competition from other London boroughs to take home the prestigious award, which is for the best overall package of sustainable transport in a borough. Islington impressed judges with it's green travel projects and overall performance on workplace travel plan promotion, travel awareness campaigns and projects, expansion of the car club scheme, school travel plan successes, its Sustainable Transport Strategy and the way it all ties up with the council's flagship A1 Borough project.
Cllr Bridget Fox, executive member for Sustainability, says;
"This is a fantastic achievement, and recognition that Islington's Liberal Democrat council is leading way on making our borough a greener place to live. This award recognises work on everything from helping get our kids to school safely to our flagship A1 Borough project. This is a feather in the cap for Islington's charter mark winning street management service, from which every resident will benefit."
