From 12th June, local residents and workers will be getting extended services from WAGN trains. Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Bridget Fox and Islington Council recently successfully negotiated an extended service into Islington with private train operator West Anglia Great Northern (WAGN).
The WAGN line out of Moorgate that serves Old Street, Essex Road, Highbury and Islington, Drayton Park and Finsbury Park only operates Monday to Fridays and was only running until until 8.30 pm. From June the service will be extended to 10 p.m. Late-working commuters and people going out for the evening will benefit and provide a massive boost to the regeneration of Arsenal/Holloway and to the EC1 areas.
Bridget says; "This is a very welcome response by WAGN to local demands. An extended service will benefit a number of local residents. Better public transport is essential to allow people to live, work, shop and enjoy Islington.
"Now we want to see if the new extended service shows enough demand to extend services further - ideally, we'd like to see an Underground style service that runs seven days a week until midnight. But this is an important first step and WAGN are to be congratulated for listening to the council and local people."
