This year Liberal Democrat are putting even more money into local environmental improvement projects in each of Islington's 4 Areas.
Tonight's Budget will give each Area £80,000 to spend next year - up from £50,000 this year.
Last year local residents and councillors all put forward suggestions for projects in the area that needed funding and so this year the allocation has been increased by £30,000. Extending the budget allows them to tackle problems and concerns that are specific to the local area
Projects that were funded last year included:
Equipment for the new Children's play area in Pardise Park An ecology project for 8-11 year olds in East Area Putting Solar power cells on top of Hill Drop Community Centre Refurbishing a memorial water feature in Elthorne Park
Councillor Emma Gowers of Chair of West Area said
"Last year we invested in some really important projects such as improvements in Paradise Park, and making pedestrian routes across Bermerton Estate safer. By extending this funding we will get to fund more projects like these and make a real difference."
Councillor Euan Cameron Chair of North Area Committee said
"Making decisions for the area is part of the role of area committees, now we can back this up by funding projects in the local area that are suggested by the people who live there. It helps get people more involved in the work the council is doing."
Councillor Joe Trotter Chair of South Area Committee said
"It is the little things that matter. Last year we spent a lot of money improving pedestrian routes in the area. This budget is important because it lets us concentrate on local priorities."
