Lib Dem Councillors Jyoti Vaja and Sylvia Wright recently visited the Morland Mews estate to discuss improving estate safety.
They were shown stairwells and walkways in Gissing Walk which have attracted problems such as graffiti, noise nuisance and drug taking. They also discussed improving estate lighting and options for installing additional gates and entry phone systems.
Cllr Sylvia Wright (Barnsbury Ward) said:
"We want to tell people that they don't have to put up with anti-social behaviour from youngsters or adults, especially in the evenings when they want to relax or are trying to sleep."
Cllr Jyoti Vaja (Bunhill Ward), Executive member for Housing and Community Safety, said:
"If people are concerned about noise or nuisance outside their home they should not be afraid to call the police there and then. These are problems we and the police take very seriously. Last year we issued 45 Anti-Social Behaviour Contracts, and if people break them, we take action. We've had a 100% success rate when taking legal action on these issues: the message is, you don't have to put up with this behaviour - taking action works."
