There's less than three weeks left to save the three latest Islington post offices threatened with closure according to local Liberal Democrats who last week launched a massive petition campaign.
At the end of June, Post Office chiefs announced that branches at Amwell Street, Copenhagen Street and St.Peter's Street in the Islington South & Finsbury parliamentary constituency were proposed for permanent closure. The Post Office is now consulting on these closures until August 12th.
Liberal Democrat campaigner Bridget Fox has now launched a massive campaign to save the three post offices. Bridget and the Liberal Democrats have visited all the post offices affected to talk to the postmasters and postmistresses and users about the closures. Bridget has also launched a petition to fight the closures and Liberal Democrats have delivered hundreds of leaflets in the areas affected alerting residents to the Post Office's plans and telling them how to object. Islington Council has also invited Post Office chiefs to the south and west area committee meetings on 27th July to explain their proposals and hear what local residents think.
Liberal Democrat campaigner for Islington South & Finsbury, Bridget Fox, said:
"We have less than three weeks left to save the post offices in Amwell Street, Copenhagen Street and St.Peter's Street.
"Liberal Democrats have now launched their campaign to try and save them and I hope that local residents will join us in saying 'no' to the Post Office's plans to close another three branches in Islington South & Finsbury.
"We have already lost two post offices at Old Street and Westbourne Road last year. We cannot afford to lose any more."
