Liberal Democrats on Islington Council have welcomed the news this week that their campaign to make the Angel crossing safer is finally paying off.
In a statement released last week, Transport for London announced that it is introducing longer pedestrian crossing times at the dangerous crossing. TfL have been conducting a review of safety at the crossing, widely recognised as being unsafe for the volume of people using it.
Liberal Democrats have led the campaign for a safer crossing and handed in a petition to London's Mayor asking him to improve the crossing that his Transport for London is responsible for.
Islington's Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Sustainability, Councillor Bridget Fox, said:
"Everyone knows the Angel crossing is dangerous and I'm pleased Transport for London have acknowledged this by bringing in longer crossing times for pedestrians.
"But more needs to be done to make this crossing safer like increasing the size of the island, changing the light timings, and adding a second Upper Street crossing to the north of the junction.
"All of these could and should be done without any more delay. The Mayor should not use this latest bit of news as an excuse to do nothing more."
