Cllr Bridget Fox and Cllr George Allan visited Clerkenwell Fire Station on Friday (05 Nov), which with Islington's Upper Street station, faces the loss of a fire engine under proposals from Ken Livingstone's Fire Authority.
Bridget said "Local people are still reeling from the shock news that Labour Mayor Ken Livingstone thinks the best way to protect Islington residents is to take away two of our fire engines. And it's not just Islington and Finsbury residents who will suffer. Thousands of workers and visitors come into Islington each day. They also depend on our fire stations to keep them safe."
Cllr George Allan, Clerkenwell councillor and the Executive member responsible for public protection adds, "Clerkenwell Fire Station has provided vital services since 1872 - I'm very concerned about plans to cut the number of fire engines here. I'm delighted that Bridget is speaking up for Islington on this issue."
