The Liberal Democrat Council have unveiled details of a capital programme which will mean better Kitchens and bathrooms for residents with a planned expenditure of at least £359 million over the next six years. This is one of the biggest investment programmes into Islington's housing ever.
Cllr Jyoti Vaja executive member for housing said "This level of investment will make a huge difference to the quality of lives of Islington's residents. As a Council we realise that poor quality housing that can cause ill health. Each year cold, damp housing is estimated to result in twenty five thousand excess winter deaths nationally.
"By improving the quality of our housing we are improving health and striving towards our "One Islington" vision that every one will live in a modern home by 2010"
Homes For Islington the arms length management organisation created by the Liberal Democrat Council earlier this year will be using the investment program to modernise Islington's Homes by 2010. Next year at least £57 million will be invested in housing.

This programme will not only benefit individual properties. The budget shows a substantial investment is planned for community safety and neighbourhood improvements, which will benefit all of Islington's residents. This represents a huge amount of investment in the community and is part of the One Islington Vision of removing housing inequalities in the borough.
