Islington's Liberal Democrat Council Leader, Steve Hitchins, is hitting the road this week to launch his new 'Question and Answer' sessions for residents at the borough's four Area Committees. Local residents will hear all about all the improvements the Council has made since the Liberal Democrats took over running Islington and about the Council's ambitious plans for future improvements. The Leader of the Council will then be taking questions from local residents. The 'Question and Answer' sessions are one part of the Council's 'new look' Area Committees. The aim is to get more local residents coming to the meetings, to increase understanding of the way the Council works and ensure local residents are at the heart of decision-making about the local area. Liberal Democrat Leader of Islington Council, Steve Hitchins, said: "Liberal Democrats set up the Area Committees in 2002 to take us away from the bad old Labour days when decisions were carved up in private at the Town Hall and the Area Forums were just toothless talking shops. "We are now giving Area Committees real powers with real money to spend and we want to ensure that local residents know about their Area Committee and what it can do for them. "Resident satisfaction levels with the Council are now at record levels. The 'Question and Answer' sessions and other Area Committees changes will show residents how serious we are about improving the council and working with residents to make Islington an even better place to live and work." DATES The Leader of the Council will be at: ? South Area Committee on Monday 19th April ? West Area Committee on Tuesday 20th April ? East Area Committee on Thursday 22nd April ? North Area Committee on Tuesday 27th April
