Liberal Democrat Islington Council has won 'Best Housing Management Team of the Year' in England at the prestigious annual 'Local Government Chronicle' awards. The Council was shortlisted earlier this year and the results were announced last Monday 14th March. The Council was beaten into second place by West Lothian council in Scotland for the national award. But Islington was highly commended for its work in turning round housing services in the borough. Islington was the highest ranking council in England for its housing management team. Councillor Jyoti Vaja, Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Housing, said: "Being voted the best housing management team in a national competition is a real feather in the Council's cap in the run-up to the launch of 'Homes for Islington' and recognises the big efforts we are making to improve housing services in the borough. "The LGC award also confirms our own tenant satisfaction surveys showing solid progress and improvements over the last couple of years. "We all remember how bad housing services were when Labour ran the Council. Thankfully those days are behind us now and we are making solid progress in getting two stars for our housing services from the government. Things are starting to look up for housing in Islington."
