Angel Crossing campaign goes all the way to the Mayor

The Liberal Democrat campaign for a safer Angel crossing goes all the way to London's Mayor tomorrow (Wednesday 25th February).

Councillor Bridget Fox, who has led the campaign, and Liberal Democrats have been collecting signatures over the last few months at the crossing outside Angel tube station. The petition has won support from residents and visitors alike.

The Angel crossing has been the site of many near-miss traffic accidents over the years. Local residents and businesses have contacted Cllr Bridget Fox about the narrow width of the traffic island, the lack of time pedestrians have to cross and the danger caused by traffic coming from different directions.

The campaign for a safer Angel crossing has also been supported by Lynne Featherstone, Liberal Democrat member of the Greater London Assembly, who is also Chair of the GLA's Transport Committee.

Upper Street and the Angel crossing are both maintained by Transport for London that the London Mayor is responsible for. Lynne Featherstone is presenting the petition to the London Mayor tomorrow on behalf of Islington Liberal Democrats.

Local campaigner Bridget Fox said: "The overwhelming response to our petition for a safer Angel crossing clearly shows what a huge issue this is locally. Thousands of people use this crossing every day.

"The London Mayor must now respond as soon as possible to the concerns of local residents, businesses and visitors and make safety a priority at this key location."
