Recycling in Islington looks set to receive a massive boost under plans revealed by the Lib Dems which will see an extra half a million pounds ploughed into improving recycling facilities which includes a new state of the art recycling centre. Since the Lib Dems took over the running of Islington Council, everyone living in a street property can use the popular 'green box' kerbside-recycling scheme. Many of Islington's schools, charities and churches can now recycle and dedicated recycling points are also being established on many of Islington's estates. Recycling bins have also been put outside tube stations. Lib Dem plans for recycling received unanimous cross-party support when they were discussed at a council meeting last year. Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive member for Sustainability said: "The Lib Dems have put the environment at the heart of this council's agenda, as part of our drive to make Islington greener. "Historically Islington has recycled less than other boroughs but we're determined to buck that trend and make recycling in Islington easier than ever before. Everyone living in street properties can recycle without even having to leave their home. We're helping children to learn about the benefits of recycling and more and more schools, charities and estates are now able to recycle. "The good news is that we're already making progress; recycling levels in Islington have doubled since the Liberal Democrats took control. "People tell us how worried they are about the problems of rubbish. The Lib Dem Council's investment in recycling will make it easier than ever for everyone to do their bit by recycling and reducing waste. "
