The Liberal Democrats today (Monday 5 January) launched a London-wide rail users' survey at Highbury and Islington Station. Leading Lib Dem MP and candidate for the Mayoral election Simon Hughes joined local campaigners Bridget Fox, Laura Willoughby and Terry Stacy to hand out survey forms to morning commuters. "The North London Line, which runs through Islington, Camden and Hackney, has a bad reputation among rail travellers," said Terry Stacy. "Silverlink trains run only every 15 minutes through most of the day and are massively overcrowded at peak times. Recently one in five trains has failed to arrive on time. "As part of the Liberal Democrat campaign for better public transport in London we're asking rail users about their experiences and what they think the priorities for change should be." The results of the survey will feed into the consultation process that is helping to draw up Simon Hughes's manifesto for the London Mayor election. Bridget Fox said: "As a frequent rail user myself I've endured my fair share of trains stuck without explanation, or running late, or cancelled. It will be fascinating to see how the results from Islington compare with the views of rail users on other lines." Laura Willoughby added: "I'd like to thank everyone who took one of our survey forms. Please fill it in and send it back. The local Liberal Democrat team will be out and about at all the rail stations in Islington over the next couple of weeks so please look out for us." You can obtain your own copy of the rail survey to fill in and return by calling 020 7359 9183 or emailing railsurvey@islingtonfocus.com.
