Bridget Fox, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Islington South and Finsbury, joined shadow Trade Minister, Vince Cable MP (Liberal Democrat, Twickenham) in presenting petitions opposing urban Post Office closures at 10 Downing Street last week. Hundreds of Islington residents have joined thousands across London in calling for the Government to take action and make the Post Office think again about its threatened closure programme, which could rip the heart out of many local high streets. Bridget says, "I am proud that locally and nationally, the Liberal Democrats have led the way in opposing the damaging plans to close one in three Post Offices. And I'm particularly angry that the Labour government, which has pledged millions of pounds to help support rural Post Offices, is turning its back on the problems facing the Post Office in urban communities like Islington." She adds "Post Offices remain a vital part of local shopping centres. Pensioners and parents collect their benefits there; tenants pay their rent; and the business brought in by the Post Office supports other local shops too. If the Post Office closes, the heart goes from the high street. That's why this campaign is so important."
