James Kempton, Executive Member for Education and Regeneration has supported Lib Dem Education Spokesperson Phil Willis MP in calls for a full independent inquiry into allegations of grade fixing by the Oxford, Cambridge and RSA (OCR) exam board. He has also asked her to publish details of all contact between the Department for Education and Skills and the Exam boards concerning exam grades over the summer. James Kempton said: "The DfES must prove that it is beyond reproach and has not given any direction, specific or obscure, to the OCR exam board about changing students grades. Estelle Morris must also set up an independent inquiry as a matter of urgency. The trust between exam boards, schools and their pupils must not be compromised. "If, as we must hope, there has been no tampering, the department must investigate why such an unusual number of coursework was marked ëUnclassifiedí, and improve the guidance given to schools so there is no confusion like this in future."
