Islington's streets are getting cleaner under the Liberal Democrats

The Lib Dems have once again proved their commitmnet to action and not just words by announcing an extra £600,000 from improving the street cleaning contract will be spent on keeping Islingtonís streets clean. Cllr Bridget Fox said: "The Liberal Democrats were proud to introduce kerbside recycling across Islington. Now we want to take this one stage further and extend this service to estates. Weíre setting up four new Rapid Response Teams - one per new Area Committee - to act as local hit squads dealing with things such as fly tipping and fly posting. Weíre also making over £120,000 available for tackling graffiti, removing gum and street washing." This includes prioritising: £115K of additional support for Recycling £280K for Rapid Response Teams (one per Area Committee) to deal with fly tipping and cleansing £85K on additional Enforcement and Trade Waste Officers and £120K on the creation of specialist services to deal with graffiti removal, chewing gum and street washing.
