Liberal Democrat Laura Willoughby has called for a new structure for transport in London, which would allow London to integrate all its transport systems. She has supported plans to be unveiled this week by Ken Livingstone - which would allow London Government to control commuter rail. The Mayorís Transport Commissioner Bob Kiley is to outline the proposals in a written submission to a Commons select committee on Wednesday. The Mayor and Bob Kiley want Transport for London to control and prioritise projects on the current rail network within London. Laura commented: ëLiberal Democrats want to make democratic London government work. Half a million people travel in and out of London by rail every day. They suffer from a fragmented mess with cancellations, delays and poor information. ëBob Kiley, a world expert on this area, should mastermind all commuter transport for London, be it bus, tube, rail or river. He is accountable to the Mayor and Londonís elected government. ëLabour has to be honest about how London is governed: are Londoners to run their own government, or is everything in the grip of Whitehall control-freaks?í
