Tom Brake MP, Liberal Democrat London Transport Spokesman, and Susan Kramer, Liberal Democrat Transport for London board member, today expressing their dismay at the impending arrival of the hated PPP for London Underground. Susan Kramer said, "This is a sad day for Londoners and London's transport system. The court has upheld the right of Gordon Brown to force on Londoners an unsafe and inefficient system. We still call on the Labour government to think again before it's too late. "Ken and Kiley must not roll over and play dead. We can fight the PPP by making it clear that if it happens we will enforce the contracts down to the last comma and full stop. Londoners should decide the future of the Tube, it's our lives, which are affected, and we should be able to hold the transport system to account." Tom Brake MP said, "The flawed PPP will come back to haunt Labour in London. Londoners will not forget that London Labour MPs turned their backs on the Tube at the crucial moment. When this flawed legislation passed through the Commons, the Labour MPs followed the Government like sheep. "Its all very well for London Labour MPs like Glenda Jackson and indeed the mayor Ken Livingstone to be against the PPP now, but their opposition was needed in the division lobby at the time and not in the newspapers now."
