At Environment and Conservation Committee last Thursday evening plans were agreed for a £5 million bid to Transport for London for money to help reduce the impact of congestion charging on Islington. Part of Islington will be in the charging zone and part outside it and so the effect of the zone is likely to be felt by many residents. If the plans for congestion charging go ahead Islington now has plans to deal with the extra problems and decrease the effect they are likely to have on residents. The extra money would fund traffic reduction schemes in Barnsbury, as well as further CPZs to stop commuters parking just outside the congestion charging zone. Councillor George Allan, Chair of Environment said after the Committee: ìWe are planning ahead to try to prevent problems arising from the congestion charging proposals. Money is available for this.î
